how report manager works?

Understand how Report Manager functions internally through the use of classes in the ReportingServicesWebUserInterface assembly and leverage its undocumented functionality.

Hi,

The power of the report manager is not in the report manager itself. Reporting Services is implemented as a web service. Report Manager is just an interface (.APSX) on top of that.

If needed, you can create your own interface using any language that understands web services.

How remove blank values from report parameter list

Hi,

In report designer, while adding report parameters how to remove blank or empty values from parameter drop down list. Blank values will appear even after unchecking "Allow blank value" option.

Thanx

I think you messed something up. Allow blank values only means that you can put in a empty string as a parameter value. If you have a data driven combobox you will have to redefine the query that fills the combobox to make it only to show non blank values. Look for the column you specified as value column if you can filter the values out, that are retrieved from the database.

How Query Same Columns w/Mulitple Criteria

I am trying to build my first report that is more than a simple columnar
report and wonder if you guys can help. I need to query the same sets of
fields but with different criteria and compare them over time as follows:
-show order NetAmount, Gross Amount, %NetAmount for each sales person for
2003
-show order NetAmount, Gross Amount, %NetAmount for each sales person for
2004
-show % change
Might look something like:
SalesPersId 03GrsAmt 03NetAmt 03NetAmt% | 04GrsAmt 04NetAmt 04NetAmt%
| GrsChg% NetChg%
Not sure if this needs subqueries/subreports or some othe report feature.
I am struggling with the documentation so many thanks for any helpTake a look at [Company Sales.rdl] sample report that ships with the
product.

How often do you snapshot?

Say you want to set up transactional replication from an OLTP server
to a report server. On initiation, it does a snapshot (or we do it
manually), then we replicate in almost-realtime.
Just as an operational matter, what is the best practice here, do
people schedule a new snapshot once a day/week/month/year, just for
good luck?
Thanks.
Josh
The snapshot is only generated at initialization, and on demand or when you
get an subscription that needs reinitialization.
So the default, which I think might be weekly should be sufficient for you.
When the snapshot agent runs it checks to see if any subscribers need a new
snapshot and if do it generates it. If not, it quits and gives an
informational message saying - no subscriptions needed initialization.

How many pages did ReportingService.Render method generate?

Hi,
I use SQL Server Reporting service SOAP API to render a report into a PDF
file. The method that I use is ReportingService.Render.
Now we are trying to know how many pages we have in the PDF file by Render
method. How can I retrieve number of generated page from reporting service?
Any help would be appreciated,
MaxHello Max,
Based on my scope, it does not seem there is parameter you could get the
page number from the output of rendering. You may need to use your own
count to count the page rendered by using device information settings:

How i should show toolbar

Hi group,
First time i am using reportservice.render method to render the report in my
aspx page. Here is the code snippet
result = rs.Render(report,"HTML4.0",null,null,paramValue,credentials,null,out
encoding,out mimetype,out paramvalues,out warning,out streamidsh.SessionId = rs.SessionHeaderValue.SessionId;
Response.BinaryWrite(result);
by doing so i am getting all the pages on the same aspx page and no tool
baar is shown. I also tried by passing toolbar = true in device info string
but no result.
So what i should do to show the toolbar .
Thanks
SandeepHi group,
i find this in msdn
If you render a report to HTML using the Render method, you cannot use the
report viewer toolbar as you can with a report that is rendered using URL
access. However, the Toolbar device information setting still affects the
appearance of the report. If you set Toolbar to a value of true, the report
server only renders the first page of the HTML report. If you set the value
to false, the report server renders all pages into a single Web page, using
<HR> tags as page delimiters.
Is there any work around.
Please help me out

How I resolved "Failure sending mail: The Report Server has encountered a configuration er

Hi
It seems there are various issues that lead to this problem.
If no other postings appear to solve your particular problem check
this...
Are all subscriptions failing or just some of them?
If its just some of them your problem maybe that the failing reports
have a subscription owner of a specific domain user id that has been
removed.
1) Check the subscription to the failing report and see if there is an
"Owner" specified under the "Delivered By" option.
2) If there is, check with your admin that this id still exists.
In my case this was an ex-employee who had been removed.
3) If the id has been deleted, create a clone of the subscription and
delete the failing subscription. Test your new subscription by manually
starting the appropriate job on the report server.
TIP - I identify the correct JobName with this piece of SQL on the
Report Server. You might need to adapt it slightly but it works for me!
SELECT J.name AS JobName
,C.Name AS ReportName
,CASE CHARINDEX('RenderFormat', S.ExtensionSettings)
WHEN 0 THEN 'PATH'
ELSE SUBSTRING(S.ExtensionSettings
,CHARINDEX('RenderFormat', S.ExtensionSettings) + 26
,CHARINDEX('</Value>', S.ExtensionSettings,
CHARINDEX('RenderFormat', S.ExtensionSettings)) -
(CHARINDEX('RenderFormat', S.ExtensionSettings) + 26))
END AS ExportType
,S.DeliveryExtension AS DeliveryMethod
,S.DEscription + '...' AS Recipients
FROM ReportServer.dbo.Catalog C
,ReportServer.dbo.ReportSchedule R
,ReportServer.dbo.Subscriptions S
,msdb.dbo.sysjobs J
WHERE C.ItemID = R.ReportID
AND R.SubscriptionID = S.SubscriptionID
AND J.name = CAST(R.ScheduleID AS VARCHAR(255))
ORDER BY 2
,3I'm running into this as well excep I am the owner of the report...
The one thing that has occured recently is that my PC was switched from one
domain to another. The new domian I am operating on is setup w/ active
directory.
Any ideas?
Thanks,

How I can I know the current mode of report?

Hi,
I need to switch off background color of column in print mode to save
printer resources. I need to show background color of column in preview mode
only for readability purpose on the screen.
I don't know how I can trace report current mode programatically. I am
running server side report. On client side , I am showing report in report

As far as I know, this is not feasible. The only thing that I can
suggest is to either display the report in a datagridview (or
gridview) w/the background colors and w/the same setup as the report
would show and then have the RDL file w/o background colors -or- have
2 separate reports in an application and try to trade them out at
runtime. Sorry that I could not be of greater assistance.

How Hide Colum Headings

I have a report that consists of 4 groups representing 4 levels of grouped
data with separate column headings and no detail rows as follows:
ColHeading 1
Level 1
ColHeading 1.2
Level 1.2
ColHeading 1.2.1
Level 1.2.1
ColHeading 1.2.2
Level 1.2.2
The report always prints a column heading at each level even when no data is
printed at that level. I have tried using the invisibility test as follows:
-Select ColHeading 1.2 row
-Test for existance of first cell in Level 1.2
-Get error that item is out of scope
Can this be done?
Many thanks! It's ugly, but if you're using sprocs, you can dump your data to TABLE
variables, then check for the existence of data in subordinate levels, then
update those values in the parent. This isn't particularly elegant, and
it's slower than it should be, but I've had to resort to this kind of thing
with SRS before. HTH.
