How not to display all databases under sql2k using sql management studio?

When you use sql 2005 management studio to connect to a sql 2005 server, you can deny view on any database and one user will not be able to see any database that he/she does not own.

However, what about if this person uses sql 2005 management studio to connect to a sql 2000 server. Since sql 2005 management studio does not call the store procedure sp_MSdbuseraccess, it will display all the database in the server.

It does not seem like I can use "deny view on any database to username" on a sql 2000 server.

Does anyone have any idea what I need to do in order to not show all the database when I use sql 2005 management studio to connect to a sql 2000 server box?

Thank you.EM will show the database as existing, but you can still deny access to the database and prevent people from opening it up or viewing the objects and data inside it.

Only admins should be using Enterprise Manager anyway...|||What I want to do is to deny any login id (who owns certain database) to not be able to see other database at all.

Just like sql 2005, you can run "deny view any database to userid"

However, doesn't seem like sql 2000 has this command.|||The databases are like houses. You can prevent people from going inside, but you can't prevent people from seeing them.

how long need ALTER DATATABLE (DATABASE) SET ENABLE_BROKER ?

I am try to start with SQL BROKER service,

When I lunch from sql Management studio the following query, this don't finish never.

ALTER DATATABLE dbname SET ENABLE_BROKER

Where I am mistaking ?

I've written some article about SB here: http://www.dotnetfun.com/Articles/sql/sql2005/SQL2005ServiceBrokerProblems.aspx

Essentially:

-- Enable Service Broker: ALTER DATABASE [Database Name] SET ENABLE_BROKER; -- Disable Service Broker: ALTER DATABASE [Database Name] SET DISABLE_BROKER; SELECT is_broker_enabled FROM sys.databases WHERE name = 'Database name'; -- Where 'Database name' is the name of the database you want to query. |||

I assume you mean ALTER DATABASE.

ALTER DATABSE dbname SET ENABLE_BROKER requires an exclusive lock on the database. Any session using that database has a shared lock on it, thus bloking the ALTER. So make sure you close (or switch to another database context) all sessions.

HTH,

~ Remus

Holas!

How can I close all the sessions using a query?

Saludos,

|||You can use the WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE clause of the ALTER DATABASE to force the close off conflicting sessions|||

Thanks Ramus,

|||Hi there,

I faced the same problem you have mentioned.

Then, I found a simple solution. You need to use the following 2 statements together, and the query will finish in no time:

Use NorthWind
alter database NorthWind SET ENABLE_BROKER

How i could connecting to Analysis Services from BI Intelligence Studio with server authenticati

Hi:

I have been working at client work station with BI Intelligence Studio but i want deploy the project in server machine, but my windows credential don't have sufficient privilege for do it. However i know the server credential for do it but i can't find the project settings for do that.

The account you connect to the AS server as will need permisions to deploy the database. In the Windows Start menu, you can right-click on the BI Studio item and select Run As... and this will give you the option to run the UI under a different windows use account.

This account does not necessarily need permissions to access the source relational data as you can specify in a data source to use the service account or impersonate a specific account. Additionally, many data sources will let you save a user name and password in the connection string. (For security reasons, Analysis Services will remove the password form the connection string, but will prompt you for it later as necessary and will store encrypted under the current user credentials to avoid excessive prompting.)

How I can start SQL Manager 2005
